WHAT IS HENLEY REGATTA?

Henley Royal Regatta is one of the most prestigious and historic rowing events in the world, held annually over six days in early summer on the River Thames at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. First established in 1839, the regatta has grown into a cornerstone of British sporting and social tradition, attracting top rowing talent from around the globe as well as thousands of spectators who come not only for the sport but also for the unique atmosphere and pageantry. The event features head-to-head knockout races over a 1 mile, 550 yard (2,112 metre) stretch of the river, with crews competing in various classes including schools, universities, clubs, and international teams. What sets Henley apart is its distinctive blend of elite competition and refined social experience. The regatta's smart dress code, traditional enclosures, and riverside hospitality enclosures — such as our Riverside Enclosure — give the event a sense of timeless English charm. Alongside the thrilling races, our Riverside Enclosure attendees enjoy fine dining, Champagne reception, live music, and a festive riverside atmosphere. Henley Royal Regatta is not only a showcase of rowing excellence but also a highlight of the British summer social season, drawing a vibrant mix of athletes, royals, celebrities, and society figures. Its combination of sport, heritage and elegance makes it a unique and iconic fixture in the world of rowing and beyond.
